Toilet Repair
Everyone is trained to use them, but at ABCO Plumbing, we are trained to diagnose and repair them. It’s a good idea to know how toilets work along with some of their common functions, since common issues can be diagnosed with common household tools.
We have listed some common DIY Repairs
Clogged Toilet:
Fill a 3-5 gallon bucket of water and pour the water into the toilet bowl as fast as possible with minimal splashing. This will cause the toilet to flush and if the flush is forceful you will know that the drain is open and flowing constantly. If instead the water backs up into the bowl and drains slowly then you know it’s a sign of a clog and it is strongly recommended to call your Local Professional Plumbing team to tackle the problem and help you prevent a big mess from the backed-up water.
Whistling Tank Fill:
This usually means you have an older ball-cock valve that has a floating ball attached to the end of the fill rod. Good news because these parts have been in use for more than 20 years as they are inexpensive and can be replaced with a Fluidmaster valve.
Partial Flush
This means your flapper is dropping too fast and not allowing the tank to fully empty with optimal flow. Just adjust the length of the chain and flush the toilet. The flapper should stay up till about 80 percent of water from the bowl has drained. If the flapper is not setting properly replace the flapper by following the provided installation instructions.
Slow Tank Fill
This could be due to a partially closed supply shut-off valve, not allowing for full flow of water supply to the tank. Make sure the Valve is completely open to allot proper flow for optimal fill up timing.
Fuildmaster fill-valve since this also controls the flow and operates to fill the tank.
